15.03.2001, Petrova A. The USSR's revival is desirable, but impossible As polls show, the overwhelming majority of Russians regret the collapse of the Soviet Union. We should note that from poll to poll, the share such people has remained high (data in % of those surveyed):
So it is quite logical that when answering the question: "IF A REFERENDUM ON CONSOLIDATION OF ALL THE FORMER USSR REPUBLICS WERE CONDUCTED TODAY, WOULD YOU VOTE FOR SUCH CONSOLIDATION OR NOT?", the majority of those surveyed (72%) said they would vote for it, while 15% of Russians would vote against it. However, most respondents (58%) avowed the obvious fact: there is no chance of restoring the USSR. 30% of respondents still cherish hopes for the restoration of the USSR. Zyuganov supporters (49%), people with an incomplete secondary education (37%), and those over 50 (36%) were more likely than others to cherish such illusions. The Public Opinion Foundation. Russia-wide poll of urban and rural populations. 1992, January 11, 1997, January 16, 1999 and March 10, 2001. 1500 respondents each. |
