The term "canonization" is known by not many people

The respondents were asked if they know the term "canonization". It happened that 35% of Russians know or even had heard this word, and 55% of those surveyed heard it for the first time during the poll.

Those who said that they know this term were asked how they understand its meaning. 19% of the respondents answered the open-ended question. Most often the right definition was given: canonization is acknowledgement of a person to be saint, numbering to the countenance of saints (16%).

Some respondents attributed the term "canonization" through the word "canon" (1%). For example, "glorification in singing, canons are sang in church"; "a rule, a law – is a "canon", so, "canonization" – it means to live according to the law, according to some certain rule".

A part of respondents supposed, that "canonization" - is "something connected with church" (1%).

Some respondents tried to understand the meaning of the unknown by sonority with other known word: canonization was explained as "coronation", "cannibalism" or cloning ("it maybe about the sheep Dolly").
