06.12.2001, Petrova A. Is Constitution Day a holiday or just another day off? The majority of Russians consider Constitution Day as merely an additional day off (67%). Only one-fifth of those surveyed consider December 12 to be a holiday (20%). Speaking in general, Russians are quite indifferent about the main law of the country. So, 55% of those surveyed said they have no idea about the main clauses of the Russian Constitution (36% say they know them); 47% consider the Constitution to be a formal document far from real life in the country (41% hold the contrary opinion); 38% of respondents think we have a poor Constitution (28% think it is good, while 34% found it difficult to evaluate). The opinion of the majority of respondents that the current constitution should be amended might be treated in three ways: as a sign of real dissatisfaction with the main law of the land and a desire to improve it; as a sign of a skeptical attitude based on incomplete knowledge on this issue; or as a skeptical attitude based on negative historical examples (data in % of those surveyed):
Only half of those who think the Russian Constitution should be amended consider it to be bad, while only half of those who are against this idea think the Constitution is good (data in % of those surveyed):
